As the spring and summer months roll in, we look forward to many of the season’s celebrations – one of the most notable being Memorial Day! Memorial Day is typically celebrated on the last Monday in May. This years Memorial Day falls on May 29th, and there are several parades, ceremonies, and events being held in the Chicagoland area to help us celebrate and remember those who have died fighting for our country. To help make your Memorial weekend planning easier, we’ve composed a list of Memorial Day events happening in the suburbs of Chicago that you can attend with your friends and family!


Aurora Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 29 at 12:00 pm

This year’s theme is “In Memory of Many…In Honor of All”. The parade will begin at Benton and River and end at River street. The Memorial Day Reviewing Stand will be in front of the David L. Pierce Art and History Center at 20 East Downer Place.


Elgin Memorial Day Observance

Monday, May 29 at 9:15 am

A service to honor those buried at Lakewood Memorial Park (Located at 30W730 US 20) will be held at the cemetery’s Garden of Honor and include a combined color guard. The observance will conclude with a rifle salute and the playing of Taps.


Naperville Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 29 at 10:30 am

The parade beings at Jackson Avenue and West street, and proceeds east to Washington Street. The program will follow at the Community Concert Center in Central Park and conclude with a ceremony.


Plainfield Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 29 at 10:30 am

The Parade will kick off at Ira Jones Middle School and end at Settlers’ Park where a Memorial Day ceremony will be held.

St. Charles

St. Charles Memorial Day Picnic

Monday, May 29 at 11:30am – 1:30pm

An old-fashioned Family Picnic follows the Memorial Day Service at the historic Pottawatomie Park Pavilion. People are invited to grill out and enjoy complimentary food and beverages as well as enjoy music by local musician Gregory Hyde.
